Our Program
DMUSD Early Childhood Development Center has 2 center locations. We are located on the school campuses of Ashley Falls School and Torrey Hills School.
At Ashley Falls we serve children from 2 to 5 years in age.
At Torrey Hills we serve children 3 to 5 years in age.
All children in the preschool and prekindergarten classrooms must be confidently potty trained to attend.
The ECDC program offers a variety of exciting and engaging activities throughout the day. Children participate with their peers in developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities. Staff support children in the areas of social-emotional development, language and literacy, mathematics and science, and physical development. Children in the full day programs have a rest period, as well. Quality care and the safety of all children and staff are our utmost priority.
DMUSD recognizes all children grow and develop an their own pace. Our very experienced staff seeks to support children where they are while building the desire and confidence needed to explore and grow. Early childhood education is about providing "intentional" play-based opportunities, where social-emotional and kinder readiness skills are embedded into play-based experiences. Developmentally appropriate hands-on experiences are designed by teachers with close attention to children's interests support skill development within specific modalities. Our program believes in utilizing the classroom environment as the third teacher. Our classrooms are inviting and comfortable spaces that are creative yet not over stimulating.
Daily small-group instruction provides multiple opportunities for children to be actively involved in learning, developing skills with teacher modeling, guidance, immediate feedback, and support. Small group lessons focus on the most predictive skills: phonological awareness, alphabet recognition, and mathematics.
